Santa
Maria Degli Angeli is an unassuming and non-descript 15th century
church at the far end of the main shopping street, Via Nassa, in
Lugano, Switzerland. Inside, the church is transformed
with spectacular frescos by Bernardino Luini. The largest and
most popular fresco shows seven episodes of the Passion and Crucifixion
of Christ and evokes the style of Leonardo da Vinci. The former
convent, which housed a Franciscan order of nuns until the mid-19th
century, also contains two other frescos by Luini: Madonna
with the Infant Jesus, and the Last Supper.
