TAIPEI 101 is currently the official world’s tallest building in the categories of structural height, highest roof, and highest occupied floor. TAIPEI is a mnemonic for Technology, Art, Innovation, People, Environment and Identity. 101 signifies the concept of striving beyond perfection.

2005 is the World Year of Physics, celebrating the 100th anniversary of Einstein’s astonishing work in 1905, when as a 26-year-old Swiss patent clerk he published three groundbreaking papers on physics, one of which was his Theory of Relativity, which deals with the nature of light. And April 18th, the 50th anniversary of Einstein’s death, was chosen as the day to hold the event ‘Physics Enlightens the World’: a worldwide relay of light to commemorate the physicist’s death.

The Taiwan ceremony was part of a global relay of light that got under way at 8:45pm April 18th with the illumination of the football stadium and two towers on the Princeton University campus in New Jersey, where Einstein lived and worked for two decades. The worldwide campaign produced an intercontinental relay of light that circled the globe in one night and united countries under the banner of physics.

Why: “Lighting up the tallest building for the global physics event is a great subject for a VR shot,” writes Chung. “And it’s a nice chance for me to capture the beautiful moment,” he adds.

How: The shot was taken with a Nikon D70 slr and Nikkor 10.5 mm fisheye lens. Chung used a Manfrotto 303 sph head on Gitzo G1509 tripod. The shot is at 8 sec, f 22, 200 ISO. The pano was shot in RAW format and converted to JPEG in Nikon Capture. Stitching and blending were done with Stitcher 3.5. and Chung used MackCubic. to publish the QTVR.
