DREAM BOAT
by Karen Guthry

Royal Caribbean’s fleet of luxury liners guarantees cruises "Like no vacation of earth." Setting sail on its first voyage more than a quarter of a century ago, Royal Caribbean: www.royalcaribbean.com journeys to the world’s most exotic locations including the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, the Baltic region, the Middle East, Asia and Australia.

Founded by three Norwegian shipping companies, Royal Caribbean’s first ship, Song of Norway, entered service in 1970. Since then, the company has become a world leader in delivering superior service and exciting vacations to thousands of cruise guests. One of its ships, Legend of the Seas, actually offers the first-ever floating golf course, "We promise unexpected experiences when you sail with Royal Caribbean International," Mr Dan Hanrahan, senior vice president of Marketing and Sales said.

Royal Caribbean’s devotion to guest satisfaction has earned the company many awards, such as the Shipboard Team of the Year award for 2000, the Safety & Environmental Protection certificate and, most notably, the Environmental Ship of the Year award. From reducing waste generation and energy consumption, Royal Caribbean’s environmental commitment is reflected in its pioneering innovations such as replacing hazardous chemicals, introducing water purification and cleaning systems, and campaigning to reduce gray water generation.

In 2000 the global cruise vacation company, which has a total of 19 ships in service, reported record earnings with a 16% increase in net income from $384 million to $445 million. "Our core products continue to perform well, allowing us to introduce new itineraries and develop new markets for future growth," Mr Richard D. Fain, chairman and CEO, said.
